Dhaka Metro Rail
Dhaka’s elevated metro gives passengers a journey above road traffic, while the walk, bus ride or rickshaw trip to a station still shapes each commute.
From an elevated platform in Dhaka, familiar roads look different. Trains run on their own tracks above the traffic, giving passengers a way to avoid the road congestion below. The first section of MRT Line 6 opened in December 2022, beginning passenger service between Uttara and Agargaon before the line’s later extension towards Motijheel. A metro journey has its own small routines: entering through a fare gate, waiting behind the platform markings and letting passengers leave before boarding. Ticket machines and reusable travel cards change the act of paying for a ride. Lifts and escalators help connect street level with platforms high above it. The train is only one part of a commute. A convenient walk or feeder journey to the station can matter as much as the ride itself, particularly for older passengers and people with disabilities. Clear information, orderly boarding and good connections help turn a fast railway journey into a practical everyday transport choice.
