Choto Sona Mosque in Gaur
Built during the reign of Sultan Alauddin Husain Shah, this stone mosque in Chapai Nawabganj is a gem of Sultanate architecture.
The Choto Sona Mosque, or Small Golden Mosque, stands at Shibganj in Chapai Nawabganj, within the area of the old Bengal capital of Gaur. An inscription dates it to the reign of Sultan Alauddin Husain Shah, around the turn of the 16th century. Its name comes from the gilding that once covered its domes. The stone-faced walls carry finely carved floral and geometric decoration, and the mosque is one of the best-preserved monuments of the Bengal Sultanate.
