Robi began in 1997 as AKTEL and adopted the Robi name in 2010. Majority-owned by Malaysia's Axiata Group, it merged with Airtel Bangladesh in 2016 and became the country's second-largest mobile operator. It was listed on the Dhaka Stock Exchange in 2020.
